An Evening in Bloom
If you were to take a peek inside my closet, you would find an almost embarrassing quantity of clothing, purses, coats, bags, etc with floral prints! Whenever I go clothes shopping I seem to always gravitate toward all pieces floral. Recently, I had the joy of designing a runway look made almost entirely of fresh foliage and floral elements at the Evening In Bloom fashion show as part of the opening night celebration of the Chicago Flower and Garden Show at Navy Pier in Chicago, IL on March 19, 2019.
It was quite an exciting evening filled seeing the fashion world of models, hair and make-up artists meet the creative talent of all the floral designers there! It was all inspired by mother nature’s beauty, but interpreted in so many unique forms by the designers. There were lots of crazy challenges that completely took me out of my floral design “comfort zone.” This dress had to move on a living model, stay gorgeous throughout the whole evening, and of course - be fashionable! It was an incredibly fun day preparing the look and my model Kaitlynn Frey was totally enchanting and wore it beautifully. Breeze Art creatively captured the behind the scenes magic. The look I designed was called “Butterfly Effect”. It was inspired by the delicate balance of harmony in nature, and was intended as an expression of how we should be rethinking our role as guardians and caretakers of this wild planet. The pure white color represents a starting point for change, a transition from winter to spring, a metamorphosis of nature, and a shifting of attitude to hope and from apathy to action!
